DVR trials The Horse Box Spa!

Established November 2018, The Horse Box spa is the first of it’s kind! Founder and Owner Allie Macleod (a passionate equestrian) decided the launch the spa after 9 years of keeping her horses in a field with no access to mains water or electrics.

Designing the spa within a horse box means that Allie can bring the spa to you, wherever you may be!

Facilities include: Awning and heated wash down area including infrared heaters, a power shower offering either hot wash, cold wash or ice infused washes, premium spa products, microfiber dry rug hire, towel and rug warming, an infrared solarium, Equimassage and Equilibrium pampering massage pads, a weighbridge to have your horse/pony weighed, and a relaxation lounge for you!

Allie offers a range of treatments, from singular options such as clipping and trimming, rug warming, weighing, massage pads or solarium to full pamper sessions ranging from a ‘Leg’s and tails hot wash’ right through to the full works, a ‘Deluxe Hot Spa’.  Prices differ, with discounts available when yards make a group booking. For yard owners, a complimentary spa for their horse is offered in return for using the water mains when treating a number of horses.

We decided it would be a great idea to try out the Horse Box Spa for you all and let you know our honest feedback!

The first thing you’ll notice when the Horse Box Spa arrives is how smart the box is, the second will be how smiley, warm and kind Allie is.

Allie was amazing from the get go, when she talks about the box and the treatments she offers, you can tell just how much she cares about what she is doing, and how much thought and effort she has put into the spa.

We chatted whilst setting up, and I will say one thing to note is that the set up does take a little while. Allie says roughly 20-30 mins as she has a lot to remove from the box and set up. You also need an area that allows quite a lot of space around the box.

Once ready to begin, I brought Darcy out of his stable to come and see the spa and meet Allie. Allie was incredibly friendly and kind to Darcy, whilst asking myself and his Owner a few questions about him such as age and going through what treatments he would be having.

At first, we used the weigh bridge to weigh Darcy. The weigh bridge has been covered in artificial grass to make it more appealing to the horses for standing on. Darcy went straight on without any issue. The weigh bridge was quick and accurate.

 .

After weighing, he went straight around for his wash. Allie is very happy to work in whatever way you and your horse feel most comfortable. You can have a hay-net up if you wish, tie or hold your horse, and choose to have the awning down or up depending on the weather. I wanted to hold Darcy and Allie worked from the position he put himself in. Darcy was able to stand under the warm infrared lights warming his body whilst he was washed. Before Allie started, she let us feel the water. It literally makes you want to have a bath yourself! It was a gorgeous temperature and it was very obvious that Darcy thought so too, he was almost drifting off to sleep as soon as it started!

Being a power shower, Allie was able to quickly drench the whole of Darcy’s body ready for his wash. Once done, she used some amazing massage mitts for a deep clean through the hair which Darcy loved. I am not exaggerating when I say the clean smell LASTS! Even after a week I could smell this wonderful smell when I buried my nose in his neck.

Whilst Darcy was having a deep clean, his rug was being warmed on the rug warmer. Once the soaps had been rinsed off, he was towel dried by Allie under the infrared lights. You then have the option for your horse to enjoy the in-box solarium to dry off further.

Allie also has special microfiber dry rugs to help your horse dry.

Whilst all this was happening, Allie has seasonal Mulled Wine warming for us! The refreshment area was incredibly clean and inviting, allowing you to sit in comfort and enjoy a refreshment of your choice.

Allie has made the whole experience personal and enjoyable. We think she is going to do incredibly well particularly at events and we’d like to wish Allie the best of luck with the business! Thank you for spoiling our old boy, he thoroughly enjoyed himself!
